Problem Solving

Problem Solving

Expressions

  • Archilles' heel = a vulnerable area or weak spot that could cause one's downfall of failure, even if that person has many strengths in other areas.
  • Catch 22 = a situation in which an individual cannot avoid a problem bacause of contradictory constraints or rules. An unsolvable logic dilemma. Often these situations are such that solving one part of a problem only creates another problem, which ultimately leads back to the original problem.

ex1) He's extremely intelligent and a very hard worker, but perfectionism is his Archilles' heel.

ex2) I am really in a Catch 22! I need a job in order to make a car payments, but I need a car to go to work. What can I do?
